LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Michael Douglas earned one of the biggest rounds of applause at the Golden Globes on Sunday when the cancer survivor took to the stage to present the final prize ceremony.
"There must be an easier way to get a standing ovation," Douglas told the crowd at the Beverly Hilton, days after revealing that he had fought stage throat cancer.
He went to announce "The social network" as the winner of the award for best drama of the globe. Douglas was also a candidate, cited for his supporting role as financier Gordon Gekko in "Wall Street: money never sleeps." But he lost to awards-season favorite Christian Bale for "The hunt".
Accompanied by his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, Douglas said E! 's Ryan Seacrest on red carpet that he felt "great" and was able to "smell the Roses" anymore.
"Last week I went tumors," said the actor. "This type of cancer, usually never come back. I'm so happy to be out. This is our first release in months and months. In order to be free of cancer is quite special.
