EAST LANSING, Mich. – A Michigan State University malaria doctor who has spent decades fighting the deadly mosquito-borne disease in the southern African nation of Malawi is subject of a documentary being shown this week on the East Lansing campus.
The documentary "Malaria and Malawi: Fighting to Save the Children" was produced by journalism faculty members Sue Carter and Bob Gould and focuses on the work of professor Terrie Taylor in Malawi. It's being shown Tuesday night.
Taylor spends part of each year Malawi, working at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre. Taylor and her research team recently got a $9.1 million U.S. grant for malaria prevention and control work in Malawi.
Taylor has received a 2011 American Medical Association Foundation Excellence in Medicine Award for her 24 years of work in Malawi.
