BANKSY, Franco singing among the mysteries of Oscars (AP)

LOS ANGELES – the film industry, Oscar are an awards ceremony. For the rest of us, are a spectacle. So, while we could not remember the best film of last year on a bet (Cameron blu-aliens film? No, wait, it was "Hurt Locker" by his former!), enjoy the memory of Billy Crystal bits of openness and Jack Palance push-ups a-armed and courageous Christopher Reeve on stage, alone, in a wheelchair.

So, Academy Awards, what do you mean to us in three-hour-and-then-some ABC aired from 8 p.m. EST Sunday?

No one complains about seeing the likes of nominees Natalie Portman, Amy Adams or Colin Firth, in their designer duds and aura of a potential winner (or, in the case of Portman, the unbeatable glow of pregnancy).

But in a year with many seemingly-dead certs — including Portman as best actress for "Black Swan" Firth as best actor for "the King's Speech" and Melissa Leo and Christian Bale in "The Fighter" awards actor — we need more bells and whistles.

First, there is a very important theme for the Kodak Theatre. This year: "you're invited."

Ok. We Accept.

Passing, is going to be cold, at least to standards of L.A., with temperatures dipping in the 50s to showtime. So during the parade of red carpet, try loyal eagerly Help publicists outside starlets cool because because cover a dress designer with a Cape?

Host the show are a key element, and this year, relatively bold handsome actors: Anne Hathaway and James Franco, two beautiful but lack credentials standard their predecessors, if a seasoned emcee (Johnny Carson), comedian (Chris Rock) or song-and-dance man (Hugh Jackman).

Promotional Spot for the ABC, including one in which Franco puts bath-time speed test timer, Hathaway is a good sign that intelligent comedy is standing. So is the approval of Alec Baldwin, who was a great success last year with co-host Steve Martin.

"She is a woman very smart and talented and wonderful and funny, and he is a man of very intriguing and polished leader," Baldwin said Friday. "They are great symbols of young Hollywood. The show is very well served by them. "

Any hosting advice for Hathaway, who was a candidate best-actress for 2008 "Rachel Getting Married", and frankly, that stands for best actor honors for "127 hours"?

"Just go with your instincts, because your instincts are what you have there first," Baldwin recommended.

Hathaway, 28 host ever younger and Franco, 32, are expected to make some music together. Hathaway sparkled in a Duet with Jackman, Oscar 2008 while Franco practically asked for the ability to sing Sunday, said producers Bruce Cohen and Don Mischer.

Other tracks are on tap with the return of the showcases best songs. The four numbers nominated will be executed by Gwyneth Paltrow ("Coming Home" from the movie "Country Strong"); Randy Newman (its "Toy Story 3" song, "We Belong Together"); Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi and composer Alan Menken ("I see the light" from "Tangled") and Florence Welch and composer A.R. Rahman ("if I take the word" from "127 hours").

Manufacturers have secrets in store, including something you've called "scenic transitions", with music and pictures that will bring viewers to different points in the history of cinema for the presentation of awards.

Surprises are the best, of course, the unplanned emotional peaks. One could come courtesy of Annette Bening, 52, nominated three times before without win, finally earning his trophy for "The Kids Are all right." Or could be provided by 14-year-old Hailee Steinfeld emerging as the Victor underdog for his film debut in "True Grit".

Then there is the presenter Sandra Bullock, returning to the stage where triumphantly claimed his trophy best-actress last year for "The Blind Side" and then, within days, saw cheating allegations surface against now-ex-husband Jesse James.

Suspense on winners and losers is, of course, a staple of the night. But there's a twist this year thanks to Banksy, British bad boy the elusive street artist and nomination for best documentary for directing his debut "Exit through the gift shop".

Will the artist prefers to hide his face from public view suddenly turn ham and will appear in front of a half a billion viewers? As the Academy of film would put, you are invited to discover.
