LOS ANGELES-California authorities say Mel Gibson was booked and released on a misdemeanor battery charge as part of the criminal case involving his ex-girlfriend.
Prison records show that the actor-director has turned himself in Wednesday at the Police Department of El Segundo.
He was fingerprinted and his mug shot was taken, a requirement of a deal of reason which resulted in him being on probation for three years and one year of domestic violence counseling.
The Oscar-winning 55-year-old was accused of hitting his then-girlfriend Oksana (gree-GOR '-yeh-vuh) during a fight in January 2010, but his no contest plea on Friday did not include an admission of guilt.
Gibson chose to turn himself in on the same night his movie "The Beaver" premiered at South by Southwest film festival in Austin, Texas.
