WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama has contributed to ring in the holiday Sunday night with stars musical Mariah Carey, Annie Lennox and Maxwell's annual concert "Christmas in Washington".
The festivities, hosted by comedian Ellen DeGeneres, took place at the Museo di Palazzo and benefited from children's National Medical Center.
Animators singing Christmas songs and performed for the Obama family — including the first lady Michelle, daughters Malia and Sasha, 7, 9 and first grandmother Marian Robinson — in an auditorium packed.
In its comments to the crowd, Obama spoke about the history of the birth of Jesus.
"The history and the message speak to us today. We are called to love each other as we love ourselves, "Obama said from the stage, with his family surroundings. He mentioned the circumstances more stringent for many people these holidays.
"We must pray for our troops. We remember those who are without work and struggling to get, "said Obama, urging people to show" love, passion and good will "to their neighbors. "From our family to yours, happy holidays and Merry Christmas."
Before an event, the Obama family offer presents from the White House to a group of children dressed as Elves has put them under a Christmas tree.

Performs also the concert to benefit were Miranda Cosgrove, who stars in the Nickelodeon TV series "iCarly", and Matthew Morrison, depicting the upbeat music teacher from high school in TV show "Glee."
