Charlie Sheen blames herniated abdominal pain (ContributorNetwork)

Did Charlie Sheen really have a hernia injury, and did laughing at a funny television show causes him enough stomach pain to send him to a hospital emergency room in dire condition on January 27?

What happened to Charlie Sheen on January 27?

Charlie Sheen, Hollywood's latest bad boy, was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital early January 27 with severe abdominal pains. A 911 call summoned an emergency response team from the Los Angeles Fire Department to the 45-year-old actor's home shortly before 7: 00 AM PST.

Some sources, such as TMZ, have claimed that the actor may have hosted a three-day drug-fest in his home and that Charlie Sheen may have taken delivery of a briefcase filled with cocaine earlier in the week. Others, such as the Hollywood Reporter, have hinted that Warner Brothers executives (who produce CBS ' "Two and a Half Men") are close to insisting that the actor seek professional help for drug addiction before continuing with the TV show.

Apparently, the "Two and a Half Men" star was carried from his Beverly Hills home on a medical stretcher and Announces by ambulance early Thursday morning, January 17, 2011, to a local emergency room. Dubbing his condition as "serious," emergency room physicians at Cedars-Sinai Hospital spent much of the day on January 27 running tests to determine the cause of actor Charlie Sheen's stomach woes.

At the hospital, Charlie Sheen supposedly told reporters he was dying and that his stomach pains were caused by a hernia injury, which was aggravated by raucous laughter at a TV comedy. The actor apparently claimed he would undergo hernia surgery on January 28.

Seriously?

"All I know is he has severe abdominal pains and went to the hospital," Stan Rosenfield, his representative commented.,

Family members were reportedly gathering at the hospital, lending an aura of critical mass to the actor's medical distress. Visitors included Charlie Sheen's ex-wife Denise Richards and his parents, Martin Sheen and Janet Templeton.

What caused Charlie Sheen's severe abdominal pains?

Does the actor have stomach problems or a hernia injury, or did Charlie Sheen's latest emergency hospitalization result from his alleged heavy drinking and drug use?

Both excessive alcohol and prolonged use of cocaine can cause serious abdominal pains and complications. Specifically, cocaine users may experience abdominal tenderness, bloody diarrhea, intestinal perforations, nausea, vomiting and additional gastrointestinal issues. Of course, no medical experts have gone on record as yet to link such possibilities to Charlie Sheen and his recent emergency hospitalizations.

Perhaps Charlie Sheen actually did suffer a hernia injury. Maybe the badly behaved actor endured a whopping case of food poisoning, a nasty bout of flu or even an attack of appendicitis. Only his doctors and immediate family may know for sure at this point.

What was Charlie Sheen doing before his stomach woes took hold?

Two young women were spotted leaving Charlie Sheen's home at about the same time the actor was carried out with a towel covering parts of his face. One of the pair of females may have been 22-year-old porn star Kacey Jordan.

Neighbors reported that a rather loud party had taken place in the actor's home the previous night, with revelers remaining into the early morning hours of Sunday, January 27.

CBS TV production of "Two and a Half Men," in which Charlie Sheen co-stars with Jon Cryar, is on hiatus. As a result, filming of the top television comedy series will likely not be affected by the actor's hospitalization. On "Two and a Half Men," Charlie Sheen plays to bachelor given to debauchery and philandering.

Charlie Sheen has been racking up hospitalizations lately.

In October 2010, he was hospitalized in New York City after police were summoned to the Plaza Hotel. The actor was apparently found in his trashed hotel rooms, behaving «incoherently, with a porn star locked in hiding in the bathroom.

At the time, Charlie Sheen claimed the medical mishap at New York's Plaza Hotel was caused by an allergic reaction to a medication.

The previous December, a judge ordered him to enter rehab after a messy court ordeal in which he was accused of spousal abuse abuse.

Hollywood's highest paid television actor today, Charlie Sheen has also done multiple sessions in drug and alcohol rehab, both voluntary and court-ordered in recent years. Married three times, the actor has a reputation for acting out, partying, drinking and using drugs such as cocaine.

Additional details will likely be forthcoming, as Charlie Sheen's personal saga seems far from complete. If the actor is fortunate, life will offer him another stab at recovery. Will the "Two and a Half Men" star have more than two and a half chances?
