London (Reuters life!)-T.P. McKenna, Irish actor best known for her roles in the popular 1960s television dramas such as "The Avengers" and "The Saint", has died at the age of 81.
"It is with deep regret that the family of the celebrated actor Ireland, T.P. McKenna, announces his passing on Sunday night at the Royal Free Hospital, London," said a statement on its website.
"After a long illness, he died quietly in her sleep. As an actor who was unique as a friend and colleague was exceptional, as a father was invaluable. "
McKenna began working as a banker and, when he was transferred to a branch of Dublin, was involved in amateur dramatics. He took acting full-time and appeared on stage in Ireland and London.
That led to the work of television, and his credits included "dangerman", "Adam Adamant" and "The Sweeney."
He also had roles in the films "Ulysses" (1967), "A portrait of the artist as a young man" and "Straw Dogs" (1971) (1977).
According to the Irish Times, his sons Rafe, Killian, Breffni and Stephen and his daughter Sally survived McKenna. He will be laid to rest in Mullagh, Ireland, next to his wife, who died five years ago.
"He was an irascible old bugger, but I loved him," the son of Breffni, told the newspaper.
